School Closings & Delays
Seymour Community School District
Last updated: 11/18/2025
During times of severe weather, SCSD will review regional weather data from the National Weather Service and will talk with school district leaders from around our area in order to make the best possible decision. We will make every effort to announce a school-day decision by 6 a.m.
Severe weather may cause any one of the following:
Delayed Start Time: School begins later than the normal start time, generally two hours. This usually allows time needed for streets and highways to be cleared and/or temperatures to rise.
School Closing: A school day is canceled due to bad weather/unsafe conditions for all or most of the day.
Early Release: Students are released early due to conditions that would impact transportation from school to home.
If the decision is made to close schools, delay a start time or release students early due to severe weather, we notify our families in a number of ways:

NOTE TO OUR FAMILIES: If SCSD opts not to change school schedules or close schools, parents have the right to keep their child(ren) home if they feel that it is in the child's best interest. We ask that parents call the school to inform staff of the child's absence.
