BC Summer School Main Information
Once again summer school will be here at our Black Creek building; we are excited to offer fun, engaging, and educational classes during summer school here at BС.
All of our summer school classes are open to current students in grades 4K - 8th. We highly encourage all Black Creek students to take advantage of these exciting opportunities!

Everyone is encouraged to complete registration by April 24th for planning purposes

SMS Summer School Main Information
Seymour Middle School

All of our summer opportunities are open to current students in grades 5-8, regardless of the school they currently attend. We highly encourage any students in the Seymour Community to take advantage of these exciting programs! Transportation will be provided for students to come to Seymour Middle School Summer School Sessions and from BC to SMS for Sports Camps.
Our summer programs provide middle school students with: ✅ Hands-on learning experiences that make education fun and interactive ✅ Opportunities to build confidence in academic and social settings ✅ Skill development in sports, teamwork, and leadership ✅ A smooth transition for incoming 6th graders to middle school life ✅ A chance to stay active and engaged during the summer months
Breakfast: Students can enter the building at 7:40am if they are eating breakfast. They will eat in the cafeteria, not the classrooms. Breakfast will be the same price as during the school year.
Lunch: Lunch at school is not available but they can bring their own lunch to eat in the cafeteria, if they are staying for Sports Camps.

These Sports Camps are run by Seymour High School Coaches and are designed for young athletes in middle school who are ready to learn more and develop their skills. These camps focus on improving the skills and techniques of the players through fun games and drills to build confidence in their sport. This program is a great way for middle school students to stay active, have fun, and improve their skills while working with the MS and HS Coaching Staff. Lunch at school is not available but they can bring their own lunch to eat in the cafeteria, if they are staying for Sports Camps. Students will need to be picked up at SMS at 2:00PM.

Our 4K students will get a "Jumpstart to Kindergarten" experience during summer school.
Kindergarten Readiness
Current 4K students will continue to learn and grow in their journey to 5K Readiness. Exciting learning in the areas of reading and math will take place along with fun summer activities. These activities will support their growth as Kindergarten students.
Summer school includes a rotation of the following classes.
Students will be able to have a choice between some different classes at different grade levels.
All student classes will be built based on their current grade level.
A description of each class is below.
Story hour - Open Library
Students will enjoy songs, crafts, games, and of course stories. All students will visit the library and have the opportunity to check out books for summer reading.
Students will enjoy projects and experiments in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. All students will get to have fun exploring, designing, building, and testing projects from all types of science.
Students will be connecting cooking activities to books. Multiple activities will happen around the skills of math, science, and reading.
Students will be involved in a wide variety of large group activities usually played throughout the school year in physical education class. There will be a focus on sportsmanship, game strategies, and having fun while exercising and increasing their heart rates.
Students will read and discuss a new book each week with peers. We will explore different genres throughout the class. Students will share their thoughts, make new friends, and develop a deeper love of reading in a relaxed, fun setting where everyone is welcome.
Readers' Theater - Reading
Students will bring stories to life by reading scripts aloud, practicing expressive voices, and working together to perform short plays. Students will build fluency, boost confidence, and have fun collaborating with classmates- no memorization or acting experience needed. Join us for an engaging and creative reading adventure.
Students will engage in team-based outdoor activities like capture the flag, kickball, relay races, ultimate frisbee, cornhole, and volleyball, promoting teamwork, friendly competition, and fun outside.
Students will journey around the World experiencing culture through crafts, music, stories, language, and more.

Description: Get ready to roll, pinch, squish, and sculpt your way through an awesome summer of clay! In this hands-on ceramics class, middle school artists will explore the exciting world of clay by creating both functional and totally imaginative pieces. From bowls and mugs to creatures, characters, and wild inventions, students will learn how to turn a lump of clay into something amazing. Along the way, we’ll experiment with fun building techniques like pinch pots, coil building, and slab construction, and bring our creations to life with colorful glazes and textures. This class is all about creativity, self-expression, and not being afraid to get a little messy while learning something new. No experience needed—just curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to try! By the end of the session, students will have a collection of fired ceramic artworks and a whole lot of confidence in their artistic skills. Come play with clay, make new friends, and discover why ceramics is one of the coolest art forms around!
Creative Coding & Game Design

Description: Step into the shoes of a software engineer this summer! In this hands-on introductory course, students will transform from technology consumers into technology creators. Using the professional-grade tools within the Code.org ecosystem, students will learn the fundamentals of computer science by building interactive animations, digital art, and their very own video games. Whether you are a total beginner or have some experience, this course is designed to meet you where you are. We focus on the "Big Three" of computer science: Logic, Creativity, and Problem Solving.

Description: This session teaches students in middle school how to prepare meals with hands-on learning. Students will participate in the cooking process, learning basic kitchen skills, and creating a variety of dishes. The class may cover a range of easy and quick recipes, allowing students to expand their cooking knowledge and experience with different ingredients and cooking methods. This type of summer school program is a great way for middle school students to develop life skills and have fun in the kitchen.

Description: Join the ultimate summer build-off! In this hands-on course, students will transform from casual players into Master Engineers. We move beyond "survival mode" to explore the power of Redstone engineering, Python-based automation with the Agent, and collaborative urban planning. Students will solve complex puzzles, build sustainable cities, and work in professional-style teams to design a "Grand Colony" capstone project. By the end of the 12 days, your student will have mastered:
- Engineering: Designing functional circuits and automated systems.

Description: Get ready to think with your hands and turn your ideas into real, 3D art! In this summer sculpture class, students will explore how artists build, carve, stack, twist, and shape materials to create amazing works of art you can walk around, look inside, and show off. We’ll experiment with clay, wire, cardboard, found objects, and mixed materials while learning fun techniques like modeling, assembling, and sculpting in the round. Students will design their own creatures, structures, and imaginative sculptures—no two projects will look the same! This class is all about creativity, problem-solving, and fearless experimenting. There’s no “right” way to sculpt—just bold ideas, messy hands, and lots of fun. Description: All incoming 6th graders are invited to a morning of fun and excitement at Seymour Middle School! The day is all about you! During this event, students will get FREE LUNCH, have the opportunity to explore the building, receive their class schedule, practice locker combinations, meet their teachers, and hang out with their classmates through fun activities. Led by our dedicated staff and student leadership/HOPE Squad members, this experience will help students feel comfortable and confident before the school year begins. It’s a fantastic way to get a great start to middle school! Before picking up your child at 3:00 PM, we invite all parents and guardians to join us at 2:30 PM in the SMS Library. This session will provide brief, five-minute overviews on Middle School Topics such as; Grading, Chromebook Usage, GoGuardian, PowerSchool, and Google Classroom—helpful insights before your child begins Middle School!
