WRITER'S WORKSHOP
Writer's Workshop is a research-based approach to writing and is used in all of the language arts classes at Seymour Middle School. It helps students plan, write, revise, edit, and select pieces for final publication. The main focus of Writer's Wrokshop is to differentiate instruction in order to accommodate the learning needs of all students while encouraging a love for writing. At all grade levels, students are exposed to the Common Core State Standard genres of: narrative, argument, informative/explanatory, and creative writing. Students will also keep a writer's notebook in order to express their own ideas and write about their own topics.
Teachers and students have expressed many positive comments and opinions about Writer's Workshop. The writing growth of many students has accelerated, and the Common Core Standards have challenged students to think and write at a higher level.
